Why customize a Barcode?

Customizing a barcode is an optional additional thing you can do to make your barcode more interesting. You may decide to have something grow out of the top of you barcode or have you barcode as part of a larger image.

What can you customize on a Barcode?

The barcode should adhere to the EAN barcode specifications this is to ensure that the barcode will scan regardless of the artwork that has been made from it. This means that the scannable area of the barcode should stay above 30X20mm (the smallest officially accepted size). The scannable area needs to remain clear from any obstructions, so any barcode artwork needs to incorporate this into it’s overall shape. Barcode artwork that obscures this scannable area can be very difficult or impossible to scan. This obviously defeats the purpose of the barcode itself.

How to design your custom barcode?

Your graphic designer should be able to help you with this, or if you have a considerable amount of graphic design skill, you may be able to do it yourself. Please make sure you have seen the barcode specifications and understand what they mean. Another option is to see the section below. We may be able to help you out.
